Resources for Teaching about Homophones

Writer's picture: LeslieLeslie

In my previous post, I shared some Tips for Teaching about Homophones. In this post, I am sharing resources I have created for teaching about homophones. These are no prep, print-and-go materials that should help support your instruction without dominating your prep time!

These resources are consistent with the tips I previously shared. In fact, I have included all of those tips in a handy teacher guide within this product!

My favorite part is that I have designed visual posters to help support your students' understanding of homophones (their spelling patterns and meanings) so that you don't have to come up with the visual aid. Those are included for over 25 commonly-used homophones!

In addition, I have created four activity pages and a reading passage - all of which provide students with opportunities to apply what they are learning about homophones!

The activity pages require students to apply knowledge of homophones to correctly fill in the blanks for missing words. (One activity page features sentences, while the other features small paragraphs.) An extended application activity requires students to create a visual representation an sentence using a homophone of their choice. The reading passage features a variety of homophones as well as corresponding comprehension questions. The homophones matching activity requires students to choose the correct homophone to match the picture given. And yes, answer keys are included for all activities as well!

So if you're needing materials to support your instruction with homophones, look no further! Grab these in the Tally Tales Literacy TPT store here!
